The Three Irises of Hoodoo

MORE TO LOVE ABOUT IRISES

The Louisiana Iris, AKA Iris hexagona, is the source of the famous Jezebel Root that is used for cursing and, more frequently, employed by ladies of the evening to draw generous and kindly clients. (The way I remember it is that hex is part of the botanical name and a hex is a curse.) It is one of the three variants of iris whose roots are commonly used in hoodoo. The other two are Iris versicolor, AKA Blue Flag Root, and lastly, Iris florentina, AKA Queen Elizabeth Root or Orris Root. Blue Flag Root is excellent for money and business luck, while QER/Orris Root is wonderful for love drawing and is also a high-quality perfumery fixative.
